Our Mission
We, the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., are a monastic community of women who seek God in our daily lives according to the Gospel and the Rule of Benedict. Through our ministry of prayer, work and community living, we listen and respond to the needs of the Church and the world.
Prayer Requests
As a Benedictine monastic community, a significant part of our mission is prayer. Is there someone or something you would like us to pray for? You’re invited to share your special intentions with us. You will be remembered during our daily prayer of Liturgy of the Hours, and your request will be shared on a community bulletin board seen by the sisters every day.
It is our privilege to pray for you. God bless you!
Daily Meditation for May 7, 2024
/in Daily Meditations/by Amanda HackettThere is a well-known saying: “Give a hungry person a fish, and you have fed them for a day. Teach a person how to fish, and you have fed them for a lifetime.” Now that the fishing season is here, we are reminded of this saying, although very few fisherpersons in Minnesota fish for their livelihood. The art of fishing can teach us several important lessons about fishing and about life. There is always the necessity of having patience, waiting for the fish to bite, or waiting for something good to happen in our lives. We might be called upon to teach another person how to fish properly, or how to navigate successfully through the lessons in life. There is the act of sharing our fish with others and learning the practice of sharing in every area of our lives. Fishing and life can teach us many valuable lessons, which will help feed our spirits for a lifetime.
